Premiere at the International Women’s Brass Conference on May 22nd, 2019

Duration: Approximately 8:30

Program Notes

“Sojourn” was written for the 2019 International Women’s Brass Conference.

In the spring of 2017 I cycled across Ohio over the course of two days using the Ohio to Erie Trail. The total miles pedaled over the two days added up to 355. This trip served as a way to find what motivates and fuels a person to endure suffering.  This piece allowed me to reflect on both the excitement of a journey and also the act of holding onto hope through the suffering involved with any worthwhile journey.

This piece consists of 4 movements, though one can think of it as a piece in two parts. Movements 1 and 2 are played with almost no break between each movement. Movements 3 and 4 are also played with almost no break between each movement.
