Look Not on Us
Work premiered at Central Michigan University in 2011
Duration: 5:30
Program Notes:
There is a vision in the book of Isaiah where God is on the throne and two beautiful seraphim surround Him. In this vision the two seraphim cover their feet and faces. By covering themselves it seems as though they are saying “Look not on us, but onto something more beautiful.” I think this is what musicians do. We are simply vehicles of a more powerful reality. The music we create can be beautiful, but I think music is at its best when we can look through it and onto a deeper and more beautiful reality.
